13-inch MacBook Air now features 8GB of RAM out of the box

My MacBook Pro is now 5 years old, but the laptop only has 4GB of RAM – I had to choose to upgrade my RAM from 2GB to 4GB back then. Now, after 5 years, I’m seeing that 4GB of RAM isn’t much when you’re using multiple tabs on a daily basis. When you consider that the smartphone market has changed and that you can now find smartphones such as the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, and Galaxy Note 5 that all have 4GB of RAM, 4GB in a laptop just seems so 2011 or 2012, doesn’t it?

Well, Apple has finally decided to give in and increase the RAM in its 13-inch MacBook Air laptop from 4GB to 8GB of RAM. Having double the RAM now means that you can do double the multitasking on the wide screen without seeing tab crashes or your phone slowing down.

The 11-inch MacBook Air retains its 4GB of RAM, so consumers who want more RAM will, in the typical Apple philosophy and financial strategy, have to pay for it and get the 13-inch MacBook Air. Apple did not increase the remaining specs on the device, just the RAM only.

The MacBook Air is touted as Apple’s thinnest laptop ever made, with its thickness, like the iPad Air, being compared to that of a bird feather. Apple decided to give the “Air” moniker to the large iPad line after creating the 7.9-inch iPad Mini line. Though the MacBook Air is thinner than the MacBook Pro, the Air is designed for everyday consumers who don’t need or want the capabilities of a professional software experience.
