Analyst predicts LG G4 might not sell as well as LG G3

LG’s upcoming flagship handset, LG G4 might not be the powerful smartphone that everyone thought it would be (due to the absence of Snapdragon 810), but Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 is still a powerful SoC present inside the upcoming mobile device. However, not everyone is predicting a smooth sailing for South Korean smartphone maker LG, which gained a substantial amount of revenue thanks to the increased popularity of its G3 smartphone.

According to a source, Lee Seung-woo, an analyst from IBK Investment & Securities has stated that the loosing point of the LG G4 will be the absence of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset. While Snapdragon 808 is still a force to be reckoned with its hexa-core processor, it is will unable to provide a challenge Snapdragon 810. However, it is possible that LG incorporated a lesser performing chipset because it felt that two extra cores would not provide sufficient performance gains at the expense of costs and battery life.

Snapdragon 810’s octa-core processor comprises up of one quad-core Cortex-A57 running at a clock speed of 2 GHz. While Cortex-A57 is able to deliver 56 percent more performance compared to Cortex-A53, its 256 percent additional power consumption will not bode well for the overall battery backup time of the device. Ever since the release of G3 in May, 2014, LG has been able to ship 10 million units. The analyst predicts that while the leather chassis will improve overall aesthetics of the upcoming flagship, the hardware specifications do carry a lot of weightage to a large percentage of smartphone consumers.

LG G4 is going to be announced on April 29, 2015, and in addition to featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808, the device is also expected to boast a powerful rear camera sensor, and a removable lithium ion battery.
