Aukey Portable External Battery Charger Review

Numerous iPhone users should check the first power bank charging from Lightning instead from the usual Micro USB – the Aukey’s 2600mAh External Battery Charger.

The Aukey itself charges using a Lightning and not a Micro-USB. However, it charges iPhones and other USB-powered devices. The iPhone users already have a lightning cable, and so this will not be included in the Aukey package (it’s more expensive than the power bank).

Advantages and Disadvantages

The Aukey is a good investment as it charges all iPhones and iPads released after the advent of the iPod touch- fifth generation, the iPod nano- seventh generation and the iPhone 5 in September 2012. The users of iOS with a 30-pin dock as well as those with the newer iOS devices can still benefit from the Aukey.

However, it loses 30% of its battery efficiency through voltage conversion and heat generation. The 70% is still guaranteed to charge a maximum of 2500mAh. It can fully charge the following iPhone models:

  • iPhone 5s — 1570 mAh
  • iPhone 5 — 1440 mAh
  • iPhone 5c – 1507 mAh
  • iPhone 6 – 1810 mAh
  • iPhone 6 Plus requires a 2915 mAh to be fully charged

Aukey boasts of an LED indicator showing its remaining charging power. Red means your Aukey’s power is below 20 percent; green, if  within 20 to 60 percent; and white, with a safe 60 percent.

Another plus is its auto-on/auto-off feature. The Aukey has an intelligent battery tech designed to automatically switch off upon a full charge. In effect, you save more energy.

Also, the Aukey has a 7.5W input that allows iPhones to charge more quickly than with the original iPhone charger with only 5W, and this won’t hurt your battery. If you want some 12W, check out other USB-charging powerbanks that offer it.

The Verdict

The Aukey is best for those who are on the go. With the overall aesthetics of the Aukey, it poses a masculine but elegant and handy exterior fit for you. It has round edges and covered with a matt black plastic. It is light weighing 85g and very slim physique with a 12mm size.

It is also handy.  You can put it anywhere without getting it scratched because it comes with a soft carry case. And, for unknown reasons, you’ll find a green suction pad included in the package.
