When looking for the perfect microwave to complete your kitchen, you have to ask yourself exactly what it is you need it to do, and how much you’re willing to pay to get what you want. Function, appearance, and price are the bottom line features that generally determine which microwave gets purchased.
High-capacity, High Performing
The Amana AMC2166AS has the major functions of most microwaves. It has a sleek, brushed stainless appearance with black and chrome finish, and an LED display. All of that is, unfortunately, fairly routine in the microwave world of today. If you’re in need of a high-capacity microwave, the Amana meets that criterion with a cooking oven of 1.6 cubic feet. This is an acceptable size in a high-capacity microwave, although there are bigger ones out there. The turntable measures 13 inches, a respectable size for the capacity.
As we all know, the main purpose of a microwave is popping popcorn. Here the Amana shines, with a present popcorn button and the capability of programming up to three favorites into the memory. This helps tremendously for recipes that are frequently used or require specific power settings. Once you’ve programmed these favorites into the AMC2166AS, all you have to do is press a single button the next time you want to prepare that special meal.
The overall look of the Amana AMC2166AS does not help it stand out in the crowd, however. The clock especially appears more than a bit dated. This is a big machine that will take up its share of space on your countertop.
Measuring in at 22 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and 13 inches high, other kitchen appliance staples may have to move over a bit to make room for this guy. With the brushed stainless look and the other features coming in as ordinary, the Amana AMC2166AS misses the mark of a high-end machine. Yet it comes in at a price of $219 rather than the less expensive models it mimics.
Well Worth the Price
For a 1200 watt microwave, the Amana AMC2166AS holds its own in capacity and functionality when going head to head with competing brands. The price tag of $219 is a hindrance to the comparative shopper. Many of its features are found, with comparable quality, in a much lower priced machine. At the price the Amana AMC2166AS is commanding, the bang is just not there for the bucks.
