Android N could be version 7.0, Samsung SDK release notes show

We still don’t have a name for Android N, though we know for a fact that it will be the talk of Google I/O 2016 (as Android M, now known as Marshmallow, was the talk of Google I/O 2015). And, outside of a few features like multi window mode and perhaps the removal of the coveted app drawer that has been indispensable to the Android user experience, we know little else about Android N. Now, though, thanks to Samsung’s own software development kit (SDK) release notes for its MultiWindow Mode, we now have a number to go with Android N.

In its discussion of MultiWindow Mode, Samsung says “This version has been released with Android N(7.0) compatibility,” Samsung wrote in its SDK release notes. Apparently, MultiWindow Mode has been updated to provide support for Android N, as Google is all set to reveal it by early Fall, just in time for Samsung to release the Galaxy Note 6 in August.

Samsung’s notes on Android 7.0 N shows that MultiWindow will remain, which is in stark contrast to LG — who removed the feature from the G5’s software. These notes on Android 7.0 N also show us that the earlier discovered notes about Android N from the Korean giant were not photoshopped, but true. Several weeks ago, it was discovered that Samsung’s Look API showed a number of features such as SmartClip, WritingBuddy, AirButton, and Edge Immersive Mode would be “deprecated in N,” a reference to the upcoming major Android update. It’s been said that Android N will bring stylus support to Google’s Android as a whole (meaning that all Android users can experience the stylus integration Samsung Galaxy Note users have enjoyed as an exclusive experience for so long).

Android N may be named by Indian Android users, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said some time ago. Currently, Google Nexus devices such as the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and even the Motorola Nexus 6 are experiencing the Developer Preview Beta for Android N. Some new Google source code has revealed that Google looks to allow non-Nexus devices to enjoy the Android N beta experience, though time will tell. The three-year-old Nexus 5 could enjoy Google’s next sweet treat, which, at the moment, has been codenamed New York Cheesecake.
