Google I/O 2016 scheduled for May 18-20, CEO Pichai confirms

For those of you that may not know, Google I/O is an annual conference held by Google that pertains to the future of Android: think of it as a sort of “state of Android” address held by the owner of Android, search engine giant Google. The Mountain View, California company has been holding I/O for the last 10 years (since 2006), with this upcoming Google I/O 2016 gathering (“I/O” is short for “input/output,” the language of computer programming) marking a special point in time for the owner of the world’s most beloved mobile platform.

Google I/O 2016 has been confirmed for May 18-20th, according to CEO Sundar Pichai. The Google CEO just recently named to his post a few months ago after Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin turned “Google” the company into “Alphabet” the conglomerate made the announcement from none other than Google’s social network, Google+:

“Exciting news: we’re only 18 weeks away from Google I/O! 2016 is going to be a special year for us — we held our first developer day 10 years ago at the Googleplex. To celebrate our 10th anniversary of developer gatherings, we’ll be hosting I/O in our backyard at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA from May 18th-May 20th.”

Google I/O 2016 should bring some interesting news on the state of Android Wear, Google’s wearables platform, and where it’s headed, as well as more information about the Internet of Things (IoT) and what that means for Google’s IoT platform, Brillo. In addition, we’ll likely see Google give a small preview of what we can expect from “Android N,” the upcoming successor to Android Marshmallow (announced as Android M at Google I/O 2015). If you’re planning on going to Google I/O 2016, mark your calendars.
