Google Store celebrates 1-year anniversary, Google slashes Nexus 6P and 5X prices by $50

The Google Store sounds familiar to the Google Play Store in name, but reality tells a different story. While the Google Play Store has been around for about 8 years (9 by year’s end), the Google Store is a rookie at retail: it’s only been in existence for 1 year. The search engine giant, Google, has now reached 1 year with the new retail store where Google and Android fans alike can find the Google device they want and click “buy.” In honor of this anniversary, Google has decided to take $50 off the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X.

We’ve covered the specs of these devices before, but one can never get enough of knowing just what you’re getting into. The Huawei Nexus 6P features the very best of 2015 flagships, with a 5.7-inch, Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a 2,560 x 1,440p screen resolution (the AMOLED panel is from Samsung), an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32/64/128GB of storage, an 8MP front camera, 12MP back camera, and a 3,450mAh battery that should more than get you through a day of use. The Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X both come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed, but these handsets have since been updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

As for the LG Nexus 5X, you’re looking at somewhat outdated specs: a 5.2-inch, Full HD display with a 1080p screen resolution, a hexa-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor (the same processor that’s in the LG G4), 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 16/32GB of storage, with a 5MP front camera, 12MP back camera, and 2,700mAh battery. A 2,700mAh battery doesn’t seem all that impressive, but remember, it only has to push a 1080p display as opposed to a 1440p (so it should hold up quite well).

The Nexus 5X will set you back $349 (or $299, depending on the seller), but remember that you can get the Nexus 5X for $150 off this price ($199, to be exact) if you order it through Project Fi with a data plan. Under Project Fi, your data will rollover each month (and you’ll have a monetary credit) if you do not use up your data each month. So, for $20 and a $199 LG Nexus 5X, you can have a phone and great phone service through T-Mobile and Sprint. Not a bad deal, huh?
