The iPhone 8 wireless charging rumor has been one we’ve been hearing for a while, no doubt in part due to Samsung’s success with wireless charging since 2015 and the Korean giant’s annual improvements in the area. Whereas wireless charging with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge took 3-4 hours on the charging pad, Samsung’s newest fast wireless charging stands allow you to charge the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in about 2.5 hours — a step closer to a 2-hour (max) charging time that will best a lot of smartphones on the market. Interestingly enough, the iPhone 8 wireless charging rumor has gained steam since Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have swept the market this year, but a new rumor says that Apple is working with inductive charging company Energous to make it happen in the 2017 iPhone (the iPhone that heralds Apple’s 10-year anniversary of the smartphone lineup).

Energous just recently supplied a prospectus for its investors, with the company providing certifications that its inductive charging meets universal, industry, and national certifications. One of the certifications in the long business document is “Apple compliance testing.” In other words, this is the Apple in Cupertino, California, the company that has yet to announce an iPhone with in-built wireless charging. The iPhone 8 wireless charging rumor gains steam here because Energous wouldn’t list this in a prospectus to investors if the company wasn’t determined to show that its financial situation is stable and in the black (not the red, of course). The “Apple compliance testing” statement could be there to give investors something worth anticipating or get their hopes up, but companies don’t just claim they’re working with or complying with Apple if they’re not.

To date, since 2007, Apple has released iPhones that have no wireless charging and still need to be placed on the wire to charge them. Samsung has made fun of the company in days past, with its famous “Wallhuggers” commercial that showed iPhone users plugging in to wall chargers at the airport and eking out the last little battery life they could because of the long line of charging customers. Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge started the wireless trend, but the company has also supplied fast wired charging so that, even plugging in the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, you can charge them in as little as 80 or 90 minutes — which is still faster than Apple’s iPhone charging. Believe it or not, it still takes 3 hours or so to charge the iPhone in 2016.

With this prospectus statement of Apple compliance testing, iPhone users can rest assured that the iPhone 8 wireless charging rumor is more than just a rumor at this point. We continue to inform readers to maintain everything with a grain of salt. Even as Apple has not yet confirmed or denied this, we don’t know if wireless charging will make its way to the iPhone 8. Nevertheless, the location of this statement in a prospectus to investors is designed to show Energous’s strong, optimistic financial outlook for the long-term. And planning to implement iPhone 8 wireless charging in the future shows that for the next 12 months, and after, investors have nothing to worry about.
