Moto Z is world first headphone jackless phone

The Moto Z and Z Force were unveiled on Thursday by Motorola, a company that has struggled to find its place within the current Android race. Motorola’s Moto Z, as we’ve told you by now, has a modular implementation that I’d dare say is far more sophisticated and easier to use than LG’s G5, but the company does have a first of which it can boast: the Moto Z and Z Force are the world’s first phones to forgo the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.

The 3.5mm headphone jack has been a tried-and-true part of current smartphones, but I’ve always wondered when top tech manufacturers would ditch it. Well, Motorola apparently heard this rumor surrounding the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and decided to beat Cupertino to the finish line. What this means for Moto Z users is that, should they desire to use their traditional headphones, they’ll need to make use of a 3.5mm-to-USB-C adapter, or go with Bluetooth, wireless headphones.

Fortunately, Moto Z and Z Force users need not worry themselves: Motorola has added an adapter for the 3.5mm headphone users that they can connect to their headphones before plugging them into the USB Type-C charging port so that they need not upgrade their headphones in order to appreciate the new technology of the Z and Z Force smartphones.

The Z and Z Force smartphones both feature a 5.5-inch, AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440p, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (minimum), an 8MP front camera, 16MP camera on the Z (21MP back camera on the Z Force), and a 2,600mAh battery for the Z but a 3,500mAh battery for the Z Force. Those who want to add additional battery life can take advantage of Motorola’s new MotoMods PowerPack module that can add battery life while also eliminating the large, protruding camera hump of the company’s latest smartphone offerings. Both smartphones also offer laser autofocus and optical image stablization (OIS) to prevent shakiness and blurry photos.

The Moto Z and Z Force will be Verizon exclusives this summer when they launch, but T-Mobile and AT&T customers will be able to pick up unlocked versions of the Z and Z Force.
