PS4 übertrifft Microsoft Xbox One zu Weihnachten 2015, Sony dankt seinen Fans

Sales-tracking firm The NPD Group reported this week that for the Christmas 2015 season, Sony’s PlayStation 4 outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One, another testimony to Sony’s dominance in the gaming sector. The PS4 already outsold the Xbox One in November, so the Christmas season only continued the trend.

Sony, in a response to NPD’s findings, thanked its fans for what the Japanese company called a successful year: “As we reflect on an amazing year, we want to thank fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top selling console in December and in 2015. PS4 also had the strongest third party software sales in 2015 in the U.S., according to NPD.

The momentum and enthusiasm for the platform continued throughout the year, resulting in cumulative sales of more than 35.9 million since the launch of PS4. During the holiday season alone, more than 5.7 million PS4s and 35 million PS4 games were sold through to consumers worldwide. We look forward to another great year and bringing an extensive portfolio of games from our publisher partners and SCE Worldwide Studios to fans in 2016.”

Sony’s been back in the acquisition business, with the company buying more image sensor businesses at the end of 2015, despite the company’s declining smartphone sales. While Sony’s smartphone business is headed south, the company’s gaming business is growing and thriving. Sony also intends to push forward with its PlayStation VR headset at some point in 2016, and with the company’s dominance in gaming, we expect Sony to emerge with even more popularity.
