Vaio has just unveiled its first Android smartphone called the Vaio Phone in Japan which will be launching on March 20 under the country’s carrier b-mobile. Vaio, which was once a laptop division under Sony, has opted to go against its parent company by launching an Android smartphone.
The new Vaio Phone is just 7.95mm thick and includes a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. It has a 5inch display with 720p resolution and a 13MP dedicated camera at the back. According to the company, it will be running Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. The device has 16GB internal storage with an expandable microSD card slot and 2500mAh battery unit.
Vaio became an independent company after Sony sold it as a part of cost-cutting measures that the company was taking. The company which acquired the division kept the same Vaio name and the logo for it and now the same logo is printed on the back of the Vaio Phone as well.
Talking about the looks of the device, it resembles to the Nexus 4 since it features a glass panel at the back and black front without any buttons. According to a Japanese website, the device is almost identical to the Panasonic smartphone named Eluga U2 both in terms of specifications and looks.
The new phone will be available only in Japan at the time of launch and will be available for 51,000 yen which roughly coverts to $420. It is said that the Vaio Phone will be available only in Asian markets at the start and might make its way to the European markets as well but there is a very little possibility that it will make it to the US.
