10. Castlevania: Bloodlines<\/h3>\n

\"Castlevania\"<\/a><\/p>\n

While not a shining example of the Castelvania series, Bloodlines was definitely a strong entry. It had graphics that were considered great at the time, memorable soundtrack and smooth gameplay, it brought out some of the best qualities of the Genesis. You also got to play around with a spear instead of a whip, which was a nice change at the time.<\/p>\n

9. Gunstar Heroes<\/h3>\n

\"Gunstar\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Not many games can withstand the test of time, mostly due to the steadily marching beat of tech and graphics, but Gunstar Heroes manages quite well. Offering fast paced play in the run and gun style genre, the controls are very responsive, which serves its speed well. There\u2019s a wide variety of mobs and bosses to get through, as well as a myriad of interesting weapons at hand to deal with them.<\/p>\n

8. Aladdin<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s rare for a movie to translate well into the video game realm. Not only that, but this is also a rare case of a game being released on both the Genesis and the Super Nintendo, and yet the Genesis is consider the better version. Somehow Aladdin on the Genesis has managed both.<\/p>\n

Animated by Disney\u2019s own people, and with some great acting and the power of the Genesis, this game is definitely a must play if you get a chance to.<\/p>\n

7. Streets of Rage II<\/h3>\n

\"Streets<\/a><\/p>\n

Nowadays, beat ups aren\u2019t that common, with the same old franchises dominating the AAA space, but that wasn\u2019t the case in the days of the Genesis. SoR2 Brings in some really great graphics compared to other consoles, a bunch of characters with their own unique moves and a truly excellent soundtrack that works really well with the game\u2019s feel. Combine that with a city of criminals and only you to stop them, this game is truly a great title on the Genesis.<\/p>\n

6. Mortal Kombat 2<\/h3>\n

\"MK<\/a><\/p>\n

Considered one of the best installments in the MK series, MK2 took what it had established and overloaded it with awesomeness. A wider roster of characters, new and prettier fatalities and a gratuitous bit of violence really allowed MK to make its mark and propel the franchise to where it is now. The Genesis version was pretty good, all things told, with its powerful hardware bringing out the real grittiness of the series.<\/p>\n

5. Earthworm Jim<\/h3>\n

\"Earthworm<\/a><\/p>\n

Earthworm Jim was a clever title featuring one of the most remembered characters of the era. While true, it was a platformer, it wasn\u2019t like any other. The level design is simply fantastic and brought in a new concept of objectives rather than going from point A to B. You also got a gun and Earthworm Jim\u2019s head as a whip, which was always fun to use and help you navigate the interesting levels.<\/p>\n

4. NBA Jam TE<\/h3>\n

\"NBA<\/a><\/p>\n

NBA Jam really kicked off the era of basketball games and for good reason two. While it didn\u2019t follow the traditional style of gameplay, with it being 2 vs 2, it definitely managed to capture the speed and quality of the sport. Of course, it had just enough silliness and goofiness to really make it stand out in people\u2019s memory, birthing a whole sub-section of sports games.<\/p>\n

3. Battletoads<\/h3>\n

\"Battletoads\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the most difficult games out there with a substantial audience, Battletoads really put the concept of challenging gameplay into hyperdrive, with its hover bike level considered one of the hardest levels of any game. Fortunately, the games was loads of fun, with tight controls and some great humor in it, and so it definitely made its mark. In-fact the Genesis version of Battletoads is marginally easier, giving more lives and generally making life easier, although not by much!<\/p>\n

2. Super Street Fighter II<\/h3>\n

Along with MK2, this entry into the franchise is considered one of the best. It propelled Street Fighter to the top and give you an incredibly awesome roster of characters with their own unique moves and combos. Genesis brought its considerable hardware power to bear on the game, and made it a really good port of the arcade version.<\/p>\n

1. Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/h3>\n

\"Sonic<\/a><\/p>\n

Starring Sega\u2019s mascot, and one of the most iconic environments of the Sonic games, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was a bright star in the banality of installments that both preceded it and came after it. This is also the game that brought to you Tails and his spinning move into the fray, giving players some more variety in how to play the game. Ultimately, it\u2019s no surprise that this game tops the list, as it was Sega\u2019s baby both in terms of a game and in terms of a console.<\/p>\n
