El Galaxy Note 7 no tendrá una variante plana

The Galaxy Note 7 seems odd to say out loud, particularly when you realize that Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 (not Galaxy Note 6) last August. The Korean giant is skipping the number “6” for the number “7,” news out of Samsung’s home country says, so we have no choice but to believe what we’ve been told. While fans have been shocked by this number change (though the device is what matters, far more than the number), the biggest question on fan minds pertains to Samsung’s design choices. For years, Samsung has gone with the traditional flat, box form factor for the Galaxy Note series, and even did so with the Galaxy Note 5 last Fall. One would be making an educated guess to assume the same for the Galaxy Note 7, but a new report says that that is not the case.

News out of Korea states that Samsung intends to go with only one design for the Galaxy Note 7. What is that design? The same dual-edge curved design we’ve seen in the Galaxy S6 edge (2015) and the Galaxy S7 edge (2016).  Samsung does not have a flat variant in the works and doesn’t intend on bringing one to market, so those who think the edge is 1) too expensive or 2) irrelevant and non-purposeful will be forced to “live on the edge” if you purchase anything outside of the Galaxy Note 5 this year.

Some seem to think that this is a bad move by Samsung, but I do not. For one, I think the edge has its own functionality, serving as a means to news feeds, up-to-date news, in addition to app shortcuts to things like your selfie camera and back camera, as well as email composition shortcuts and so on. These are features that consumers use often, but the edge allows you to bypass returning to the main screen for every app need you have and instead, use the edge when necessary. And, as for writing on the Note (Samsung intends to let users write on this upcoming Galaxy Note 7 edge; yes, we can proudly call it that!), the dual-edge curves are small slithers to the left and right of the display. The Galaxy Note 7 looks to come in at 5.8 inches across, so you’ll have plenty of room to scribble notes and the like. Two edge slithers on the screen aren’t going to ruin your writing experience, trust me.

The Galaxy Note 7 edge will have a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,440p (Quad HD), Qualcomm’s updated Snapdragon 823 processor (as opposed to the Snapdragon 820 currently in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge), 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32/64GB of storage, a 5MP front camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a 12MP back camera with Dual Pixel phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and an f/1.7 aperture, IP68 water and dust resistance, an iris scanner, and a 4,000mAh battery. As you can see from the specs, the Korean giant is sparing no expense to provide the very best of its experience for its most prized customers.
