El Galaxy S8 podría tener sólo pantalla de doble borde

With the Huawei P9, LG G5, and now Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus sporting a dual-lens camera setup for their back cameras, Samsung will likely proceed with a dual-lens camera setup of its own for the Galaxy S8 in 2017. We’ve been hearing this rumor for a while now and find it to be credible. At the same time, however, a number of other questions remain for the Galaxy S8. According to a new report out of Korea, it seems as though one more question may be answered now, too.

Korean source The Korea Herald says that Samsung will go with a dual-edge design for the Galaxy S8 only — leaving the old flat panel design behind:

Samsung Electronics is considering ditching a flat-screen version for its next flagship Galaxy 8 [sic] that is expected to come out next year with a curved display only, industry sources said on Sept. 8.

The move comes after the Galaxy S7 Edge outpaced its flat-screen sibling in terms of sales.

The same report from The Korea Herald also states that Samsung has even settled on two display sizes for the Galaxy S8’s dual-edge display: 1) 5.1 inches and 2) 5.5 inches, which matches what we’ve seen in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

The dual-edge display is Samsung’s own signature trademark design and is currently being purchased by Chinese OEMs who want the very best in design language for their smartphones. Samsung has already introduced a sole dual-edge display design in the Galaxy Note 7, with no flat panel in sight (despite some Note 7 prototypes we’ve seen with a flat-screen panel). The company calls the Galaxy Note 7’s dual-edge form factor “the Galaxy Note 7” as opposed to “Galaxy Note 7 edge,” so we could see the dual-edge Galaxy S8 be called “Galaxy S8” next year.

By ditching the flat panel, Samsung would be giving in to consumer trends. The dual-edge display has a gorgeous design, and the additional functionality makes it an app shortcut for those who just get the urge to take a selfie, compose an email, or record a small voice message as a reminder in the middle of reading, writing, shopping, and so on.
