El casco de realidad virtual Morpheus de Sony se lanzará en 2016

Sony showcased the latest prototype of the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset at the Game Developers Conference stating that the device is in its final stages and will be available to consumers in 2016. According to the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Shuhei Yoshida, the new version of Morpheus is close to the final consumer product.

The new prototype which was unveiled at the GDC resembles with the previous prototype but according to Sony, this resembles is only limited to the physical aspects of the headset. Technically, there are a lot of improvements made in the new Project Morpheus prototype that will give end user a much better experience.

Talking about the changes in the new prototype, it now has a 5.7inch OLED display with 1920xRGBx1080 resolution. Previous prototype featured a 5inch LCD display. The Field Of View has been increased from 90 degree to 100 degree. The refresh rate is now double of what the previous prototype had; 120 GHz up from 60 GHz. Increasing the refresh rate means less blurriness, better motion graphics and better immersion.

The new Project Morpheus Prototype now has three more LED trackers and now the total numbers of trackers are 9. Another design change allows the user to slid the headset in an out without removing the entire headset off so that they can see what is going around them in the real world.

The new Prototype 2 which Sony demoed at the GDC looks promising and it doesn’t fall back from other VR headsets from other OEMs in any way. Unfortunately, there is still almost a year long wait for the Sony Morpheus VR headset to arrive. The company didn’t tell much about the pricing details of the headset as well.
