¿Qué le espera a Destiny en 2016?

Destiny is the next big franchise that Bungie has worked on since Halo. Starting out with a lot of massive hype, it wasn’t received that well by fans on the release, with most of the criticism placed on the lack of story and storytelling. That being said, a lot of people play it for the gameplay, and in that regard, Bungie knows their craft well.

With the recent release of The Taken King DLC, Bungie brought Destiny Year One to a close, and everybody is wondering what is next. Well, for one thing, they are moving away from the DLC formula they used in the first year of Destiny, mostly due to the long release schedules that this kind of formula has. Not to mention that the first two DLCs weren’t really received that well, so it’s not surprise that they want to move away from that.

So what could possibly remain? Well, the people at Bungie are playing this close to their hearts, and there isn’t much information forthcoming. It’s always a risky endeavor when developers aren’t forthcoming with players, as the tension and hype that is built up is very hard to live up to, as the developers of The Division have realized when discussing their 1.1 update for incursions. That being said, there have been a few tidbits of information here and there.

Firstly, we’re going to have some new events much like the Sparrow Racing League, except they won’t be timed and are more likely to be a permanent addition. There’s also going to be new activities, similar to Festival of the Lost. Of course, this kind of content is usually much quicker and easier to release than full DLC packs, so let’s hope they aren’t made too hastily and are of good quality.

Secondly, there’s going to be a mysterious and significant change to the world sandbox, which should be coming either in winter or in spring. There’s no real information as to what these changes are, so they can be anything from exotic weapons, to new vehicles, or locations, or who knows? That’s the problem with secrecy, it doesn’t give you much information.

Of course, one thing we do know is that there won’t be a Destiny 2 coming in 2016. Bungie has confirmed a full sequel release for 2017, with player’s progress carrying over to the next release. In addition to that, Christopher Shlerf, who wrote for Halo 4 and Mass Effect: Andromeda, has joined the team, so the story criticism might have struck home, meaning we’re going to get a better story this time around.

Leaving 2016 for a second, there’s also been some talk of bringing The Destiny franchise to VR Headsets. Now, considering all the content they have planned for year two, and how they are talking, it’s very unlikely we’ll see Destiny VR. That being said, it is possible that Destiny 2 is planned to be VR compatible, as well as maybe being available on PC, as well as the consoles.

Ultimately, there’s a lot of secrecy and lack of information out there, let’s just hope that it isn’t a disappointment.

What do you think Bungie has planned for Destiny in 2016? Let us know in the comments.
