According to Google, Project Tango is moving from the Advanced Technology and Projects to its own department and division at Google. The 3D mapping tech which was previously in development and experimental stage at the ATAP research division at Google is becoming a proper part of Google.<\/p>\n

Google announced the news in a Google+ post <\/a>stating that Project Tango will be having a new home at Google now.<\/p>\n

ATAP\u2019s innovation strategy is characterized by ambitious goals, time limits, and temporary project teams. So, after two fast-paced years in ATAP, and many technical successes, the Tango team is transitioning from ATAP to a new home within Google.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t specify what will now happen to the Project Tango and how it will evolve in the new phase of its development but one thing is clear that Google is happy enough from the research and development progress of the Project Tango that it is making a separate entity for it. Moving on from the ATAP division means that Project Tango will now have more resources available to continue the work.<\/p>\n

Project Tango has seen significant development to its concept, mapping objects in 3D using sensors. Now that it\u2019s a separate part, Google will put more effort and resources to speed up the development process. There\u2019s a very high possibility that the next Nexus device might feature a depth sensing IR camera that will based on Project Tango concept. It is also expected that Google will be working on building more advanced smart home products by using both Nest and Project Tango technologies together.<\/p>\n
