The iPhone 6s is only 4 months old, but we\u2019re already seeing some stellar deals on the device \u2014 and the iPhone 7 is a good 8 months away. Best Buy is no stranger to deals, with the company bringing deals for both Samsung and Apple to customers who\u2019d otherwise have to save for some time before buying them. Today\u2019s deal specifically concerns the iPhone 6s (not the iPhone 6s Plus, but the base model). The iPhone 6s costs $199 out of pocket for consumers, but Best Buy intends to provide a $199 discount on the down payment for those who trade-in a working iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, or iPhone 6s Plus. In other words, Apple is gearing this deal with Best Buy for current customers, not Android smartphone owners.<\/p>\n
Someone out there is wondering why someone would trade in an iPhone 6s Plus and get a 16GB iPhone 6, but there are a few reasons. One top reason concerns the move from one carrier (say, Sprint) to another (say, Verizon). Since Sprint has a carrier-locked device and Verizon devices are unlocked and can be used with both AT&T and T-Mobile, you couldn\u2019t bring your 16GB iPhone 6s from Sprint over to Verizon to use it. If you\u2019re leaving Verizon though, and want to use your device on both AT&T and T-Mobile networks, you could still use your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus but trade in a smaller device for something larger. Of course, it appears as though the 16GB iPhone 6s is the main concern here, since a number of consumers could care less about a 64GB iPhone 6s or 64GB iPhone 6s Plus. Even fewer will buy these higher-storage models, though Apple\u2019s elimination of the 32GB iPhone has made it all too easy for the company to rack up another $100 per person per iPhone. Getting rid of that 32GB iPhone option was Apple\u2019s way of eliminating choice to grow its bottom line, which isn\u2019t surprising coming from a company that does this on a regular basis.<\/p>\n
The iPhone 6s, even the 16GB model, features a 5MP front camera, 12MP back camera, a dual-core, A9 processor and M9 motion coprocessor, a 1334 x 750p screen resolution, 4.7-inch LCD screen, and runs iOS 9. Those who take advantage of the 16GB iPhone 6s deal with Best Buy need not worry about 16GB seeming small, since Apple has incorporated \u201capp thinning\u201d into iOS 9 that only forces users to download the code necessary for a game or an app (not all the background information that eats away at storage). Of course, app thinning doesn\u2019t entirely eliminate the problem, but many average customers won\u2019t find offense with app thinning and freeing up some amount of space to make room for the stuff that counts.<\/p>\n
The $1 deal must be seen for what it is, though. The truth of the matter is that all customers are paying full price for their devices (the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus cost $700 and $800, respectively, for the 16GB models), so the $200 discount only applies toward the down payment. Unlike some tech sites that will tell you $1 is the total price you\u2019re paying for the iPhone 6s, or even deceive you to that end, we\u2019re honest enough to tell you that you\u2019re still paying the other $500 or $600 for a 16GB iPhone \u2014 it\u2019s just that you won\u2019t owe it on the day you travel to Best Buy. You\u2019ll owe it in an installment plan or two-year agreement, so prepare to pay another $20-$35 a month on your phone bill in addition to your phone service plan to get the iPhone 6s. The sweet thing is that out-of-pocket or upfront expenses can be lethal and dash someone\u2019s desire to get the iPhone. Best Buy is helping someone get a new iPhone 6s without the burden of an initially expensive payment.<\/p>\n
