La WWDC 2016 se celebra el 13 de junio

For some time now, Siri has provided the date for WWDC 2016, so we’re not surprised to see Apple officially announce it. Still, it’s good to get an official sense of closure as to the specific date for the WWDC 2016 keynote address. This year though, unlike previous years, the keynote address will be held in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, though for unknown reasons.

As has been the tradition over the years, Apple will allow those unable to attend to watch the event by way of www.apple.com, so you needn’t worry about trying to secure developer tickets to the event. WWDC 2016, also continuing with tradition, will showcase Apple’s upcoming mobile OS update (iOS 10) alongside of the company’s upcoming products (iPad, iPhone, iMac, MacBook, Apple TV, etc.), with the company diving more into what we can expect from iOS 10. I think Apple is excellent at covering the upcoming mobile platform update at WWDC, but the company must not continue to drill home the major points at the iPhone announcement in September. For one thing, I think it makes the announcement too long and detracts from the main attraction (the devices themselves). If the company wants to uncover iOS 10 at WWDC 2016, that’s fine — but to drill the major new features for a second time in September is too much all over again. I think that Apple should celebrate its achievements, but I think the 2 hours of watch time could be better spent than reiterating iOS 10 again (unless there’s something new to tell).

We’ve gotten some small sliver of information about the new MacBooks. Apple has decided to provide the 13-inch MacBook Pro models with 8GB of RAM out of the box instead of the traditional 4GB of RAM that has stretched back with MacBooks from 2011. Apple hasn’t decided yet to increase the RAM of 11-inch models, though. The iPhone 7 won’t make an appearance, unfortunately, and it’s likely the case that the iPad won’t, either. In most cases Apple consumers itself with MacOS (laptop) and iOS (mobile) platforms, so you’ll hear more about software here than hardware.

We don’t know much about iOS 10, but we know that it could involve an updated Apple Music app that supports lyrics. There are few other details about this as well as Apple’s upcoming Mac OS (which should also make a star appearance at the event). Apple has been naming Mac OS after sights in California, such as Mavericks, Yosemite, and El Capitan, and it’ll be interesting to see what Apple decides to name the upcoming Mac OS this year. Of course, we have heard that Apple will drop the “Mac OS X” label and simply name it Mac OS, but we’ll need confirmation from Apple before we can proceed with the official name change.
