Xiaomi, or the ‘Apple of China’ as they’re starting to become known, are reportedly set to release two variants of the Mi 5 handset. One of them is rumoured to sport a 5.2 inch screen capable of QHD while the other one, the “Mi 5 Plus” is said to feature a gargantuan 6 inch QHD display. Xiaomi is earning a reputation for impressive hardware, aesthetics and an aggressive price tag, the Mi 5 Plus is no exception in that regard. It’s expected to feature a sleek bezel less design, powerful internals and a price that is expected to give other top devices, like the HTC One M9, a run for their money.
The hardware specifications for both Mi 5, and Mi 5 Plus will most likely include 1440p resolution, coupled with 3 GB of RAM, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 and an 802.11 ac wireless adapter. While it has been stated that the 5.2 inch Mi 5 will feature a 3,000 mAh battery, it is possible that Xiaomi incorporates a larger battery pack to Mi 5 Plus, due to its larger screen size. The larger battery will be able to hold out against Cortex-A57’s power use. Cortex-A57 is present inside Snapdragon 810, alongside Cortex-A53 and while the latter is 56 percent slower compared to Cortex-A57, it consumes 256% less power.
Currently, the largest phablet sized smartphone that Xiaomi has released is Xiaomi Mi Note Pro. The smartphone features a 5.7 inch QHD display and is armed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810, 4 GB of RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery. It is the first device from the company’s lost list of mobile products to feature 4 GB of RAM. As stated above, the Mi 5 duo might feature 3 GB of RAM, but since nothing has actually been confirmed, it is possible that both handsets might come come equipped with 4 GB allowing for more multitasking headroom.
The alleged release date of both Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus is expected to be somewhere during the month of June. Pricing details have not yet been detailed.
