Galaxy S7 Nougat update to bring Note 7 UX

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are the two finest popular Android handsets on the market, in terms of their overall raving reviews and sales, but Samsung’s latest handset, the Galaxy Note 7, has some S7 owners jealous. It’s obvious to anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock that Samsung saved the best UX for what it deems to be its most prestigious handset. With that said, though, the new UX isn’t called “TouchWiz,” but instead, “Grace,” a rebrand of the UX so as to change the perception of Samsung’s UI that has been rather negative for a number of consumers over the years. The Galaxy S7 series (S7, S7 edge, S7 Active) still bears the same look that they had out of the box, old TouchWiz, since they were announced on February 21st at MWC (and in June), and Galaxy S7 owners want to know if they can expect to see the new Note 7 UX come to their devices. Well, the answer to this is “yes,” and for the “when” question, the answer is the Galaxy S7 Nougat update.

According to my colleagues over at SamMobile, Samsung has been testing Android Nougat on the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge, which shows the company’s plans to bring the Nougat update to its 2016 handsets. The Galaxy S7 Nougat update will bring not only the new Note 7 UX (“Grace”) but will also bring Always On Display enhancements to the Always On Display (AOD) of the S7 and S7 edge — one in particular being third-party notifications so that you can view Twitter, Gmail, Google Drive, Google+, and others on the secondary screen that comes alive when the main screen goes black.

While the Galaxy S7 Nougat update will keep S users from feeling as though they’re left in the dark (and feeling jealous of Note 7 users), we don’t have a specific timetable as to when to expect the new update. Samsung has been working hard to roll out updates faster than before, with the Galaxy Note 5 as well as the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge already having the September 2o16 security patch for most carrier customers in the US. The best approximate time we can give (though this is unofficial) would be no earlier than November/December 2016.
