Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X unboxing videos show Google’s latest up-close

We’ve had our share of fun leaking photos and images of the rumored Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, and now, after all the rumors and the announcement, the smartphones have started making their way out to customers. In a video leaked from India tech site Intellect Digest, the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X pose for the camera with all of their display, back cover, and camera glory.

The Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X match what we’ve seen before in the photos we’ve shown you here (no surprises there), but we can now see them in a more glamorous light than before. It’s often the case that some units that are leaked are beforehand, pre-production prototypes that need a little “brushing up” before primetime. The Huawei Nexus 6P looked horrid with its black bar across the back, but seeing it in the video up-close shows the finesse with which Huawei designed the Google flagship. We’ve already told you that the black bar houses a lot of important components that are indelible to the smartphone experience.

The Nexus 6P is the first premium metal flagship from Google, and the “NEXUS” branding falls in the middle of the back of the device, with the fingerprint sensor slightly above the NEXUS branding. “Huawei” is also placed at the bottom in smaller branding print than “NEXUS,” but it’s obvious why this is the case: despite the fact that Chinese manufacturer Huawei has designed the phone, this is a Google phone – make no mistake about it. The Nexus 6P also looks slightly taller than the Motorola Nexus 6 from 2014, and will only come with 25GB out of the box (out of the minimum 32GB of storage). As for the display, Google decided to use Samsung’s Super AMOLED panels for the Nexus 6P – and the display is gorgeous. It outshines the Nexus 5X display (which uses LCD technology), making it the true Nexus flagship for 2015.

The Nexus 5X, shown in black, has something akin to gray “NEXUS” branding with a gray ring for the fingerprint sensor that, like that of the Nexus 6P, is also on the back. We don’t know why Google decided to go with the back fingerprint sensor, but it looks well designed with the round camera lens on the back of the device. The one design decision that’s got us scratching our heads, however, is the adapter for the Nexus 5X: it has something of a bell shape to it, though we don’t know why LG would make an adapter the size of a Christmas bell ornament. The adapter should be thin, as the device is thin, and get out of the way so that you can see and feel the “oooohhhh” and “aaaahhhh” with every touch of every component of the device.

We’ve said more than enough about the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X videos, but we want you to take a look at them for yourself. To do so, hit up the source link below.
