Qualcomm annonce le successeur du Snapdragon 810, le Snapdragon 820

The Snapdragon 810 processor, Qualcomm’s first octa-core, has placed Qualcomm in a bad light when it comes to high-end smartphones. Qualcomm has laid off a few hundred employees because of it, so the company would like to forever forget the processor that gave it a bad name and move forward.

That is what the company is doing, having announced the Snapdragon 820 processor today, which will be a huge step up from the faulty Snapdragon 810. Here’s what the new Snapdragon 820 processor has to offer:

  • X12 LTE offers 3x faster upload speeds and 33% faster download speeds
  • The new Kryo CPU brings 2X the efficiency and performance as opposed to the Snapdragon 810
  • CPU is a 64-bit quad-core chip, as opposed to the octa-core Snapdragon 810, with a clocked speed of 2.2Ghz
  • Adreno 530 GPU offers 40% improved graphics performance over the Adreno 430
  • Qualcomm’s image signal processor (or ISP) offers 28MP photo capabilities
  • LTE category 12 offers up to 600Mbps in download speeds, uplink speeds up to 150Mbps
  • Advanced Wi-Fi that supports 802.11ad and MU-MIMO
  • LTE-U allows you to utilize LTE even in unlicensed and congested network areas
  • 4K display support, video recording, and video playback
  • Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 is 4X faster than normal charging and 38% faster than QuickCharge 2.0
  • Supports low-power, double data rate 4 (or LPDDR4 RAM)
  • Provides a security suite to protect your fingerprint information, content, log-in info, and to shield your hardware and software from malware and hacking viruses

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor provides some security and protection that are welcome to any smartphone user that hopes to purchase a device in 2016. Sources say that the overheating issues of the Snapdragon 810 are gone, but other sources say that Samsung is currently working on using pipes to reduce the overheating problem of the Snapdragon 820.
