After the release of its flagship Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, South Korean phone giant Samsung will be attempting to grab a portion of the middle smartphone market with its Galaxy A8, A9 and A6 offerings. According to a source, all three devices are going to feature the same premium finish that is present on Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
The source states that Galaxy A8 is only going to be targeted to the Chinese region, and is the first device not falling in to the flagship category to sport a 16 MP rear camera sensor. What remains to be seen is if the sensor is the same one present inside Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. As for the remainder of the hardware specifications, the company has finally incorporated one of Qualcomm’s SoCs, even though it happens to be a mid-performer. The company’s Snapdragon 615 will provide enough performance for the smartphone to position itself in the price/performance category, depending on whether or not the company prices it accordingly.
The front camera will comprise of a 5 megapixel sensor and a 1080p display is going to be radiating on a large 5.7 inch screen size, which effectively makes the smartphone a phablet sized device. In terms of thickness, Galaxy A8 measures in at just 5.9 mm and weighs 40 grams.Additionally, it also features 2 GB of RAM and thanks to its large form factor, the company has been able to fit in a 3,050 mAh batter, which is 550 mAh larger than the 2,550 mAh battery pack present inside its flagship duo.
The phone possesses a 16 GB of on-board, with no word on whether or not it possesses a microSD slot. The phone runs Android 5.0.1 and hopefully for the masses, it will also be running the improved TouchWiz UI that is present inside the Galaxy S6 family. For wireless connectivity purposes, all the information known thus far is that it will possess an LTE modem. As for pricing and other details, it is expected that they will be unveiled once Samsung announces details of its Galaxy A9 and Galaxy A6.
