Samsung Poseidon : s'agit-il du Galaxy S7 Active ?

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge provide durable Gorilla Glass 4 displays as well as water and dust resistance, but a new handset from Samsung just may prove to be the Galaxy S7 Active — a phone that will join the water and dust-resistant series Samsung releases as an AT&T carrier exclusive each year.

Word of this comes from none other than @evleaks, who wrote three days ago that “That SM-G891A in testing at AT&T is known as the Samsung Poseidon.” The Galaxy S6 Active has a model number of SM-G890A, so the “G891A” model number must be a reference to the Galaxy S7 Active, the upcoming handset. Its testing at AT&T only serves to further validate the rumor. Poseidon  is known in Greek mythology as “the god of the sea,” so we’re thinking the Galaxy S7 Active, as with its predecessor, will have saltwater protection (the S6 Active is rated IP68, and we believe that the S7 Active will share the same protection rating).

The Galaxy S7 Active will join the Galaxy S6 Active as part of Samsung’s Active smartphone series that comes with military-grade construction (and materials), as well as the tried and true water and diet resistance that has characterized the series since its induction with the Galaxy S4 Active back in 2013. I’ve been testing out the Galaxy S6 Active for the last 8 months, and I can say that the handset is built to last. Not only does it leave room for wireless charging, but it also brings the best of Samsung’s camera technology to this carrier-exclusive handset. I’ve been able to take the S6 Active outdoors, indoors, in the rain, and so on, without fear of water damage of any kind. I’ve even had the fortune of dropping the Galaxy S6 Active on its face without fear, at least 10 times in the last 8 months.

The Galaxy S7 Active will serve as the Active model for Samsung’s Galaxy S7 series for 2016, but the handset may very well land at only AT&T again. I’ve reviewed the handset, stating that, while it’s the best of Samsung’s smartphone arsenal and the S6 Active was the most underrated smartphone of 2015, the one thing holding the phone back is AT&T carrier exclusivity. Every carrier and customer needs to have access to the Galaxy S7 Active, if it launches, and things are heating up now that LG has brought the LG V10 to Verizon.

The Galaxy S7 Active is expected to feature a 5.1-inch, Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440p, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM (up from the 3GB of RAM in the S6 Active), 32GB of storage (perhaps with a microSD card slot this time; we’ll see). as well as a 3,600mAh+ battery size. Last year’s Galaxy S6 Active featured a 3,500mAh battery that can provide 10 hours of on-screen time (SOT) and 2.5 days of battery life. The Galaxy S7 edge is currently providing 10 hours SOT and a day of battery life with its 3,600mAh battery. and it is our hope that Samsung will give the Galaxy S7 Active at least a 3,900mAh or 4,000mAh battery (this will all depend on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 6 plans, however).

Would you care for the Galaxy S7 Active if it arrives to market? Do you hate the fact that the Active smartphones of the past have been mostly relegated to AT&T (Spring got the S5 Active, known as the S5 Sport), and long for Samsung to bring the device to Verizon and T-Mobile? Do your thing in the comments.
