Samsung unveils the Galaxy S7 Active

The Galaxy S7 Active has had its share of implicit public appearances, with Samsung leaking the device name in one of its Play Store apps, followed by AT&T leaking it as part of the company’s BOGO deal last month. After the photos arrived by way of Evan Blass, the renown leakster known as @evleaks, the device continued to stay in the news with no hint as to the arrival date (only June 10th as the launch date).

As with other things in life, the Galaxy S7 Active finally arrived this week, with little hint as to the specific date, but it was announced through AT&T. And yet, the device checks off all the boxes of what you’d expect of a flagship. Let’s get down to it.

The Galaxy S7 Active features a 5.1-inch, Quad HD display with a 2,560 x 1,440p screen resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32GB of storage, a 5MP front camera with an f/1.7 aperture, 12MP back camera with f/1.7 aperture and Dual Pixel phase detection autofocus (PDAF), IP68 water and dust resistance, and a whopping 4,000mAh battery. The device runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, so you’ll have the latest Android update, and comes with Samsung Pay integration.

There are some things about the device that we don’t know, the majority of them pertaining to whether or not the Galaxy S7 Active is Gear VR-compatible. An AT&T representative couldn’t promise it due to the S7 Active’s bulkier body as compared to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

Having spent the last 11 months with the Galaxy S6 Active, I can say that the Galaxy S7 Active will be a treat. Though we can’t promise anything, we’ll work hard to get our hands on one so that AT&T customers can find out whether the phone is worth it or not.
