The traditional way of logging in to user’s accounts is about to be changed by advertising company Yahoo, who has thought up of a new way of allowing users to login in to their email accounts. When an individual logs in for the very first time in to their Yahoo accounts, they will receive a unique code on their smartphones which after they punch it in, will allow them access to their accounts. In many ways, it acts as a two factor authentication without forcing users to go through the first step.

According to Alex Stamos, who is Yahoo’s chief information security officer; he states that:

This is the first step to eliminating passwords. I don’t think we as an industry have done a good enough job of putting ourselves in the shoes of the people using our products. Next time you try to login, the password field will be replaced by a button that says ‘send my password,’ and the company texts a four-character password to your phone.

If users want to activate the feature, they will first have to log into their Yahoo account using their original password. Afterwards, they can navigate through the‘settings’ in order to activate the on-demand passwords feature and register their phone.

Seeing as how the globe is moving closer and closer to the technological side, security is becoming a paramount concern for majority of regions. Yahoo intends on maximizing security for its users by gradually removing the password detail altogether. Tech giants like Google and Apple have had to deal with incidents involving password theft before, forcing the firms to come up with a suitable alternative to not only protect the user’s accounts but to safeguard their sensitive information which comes under payment card information.

Perhaps Yahoo’s move will enable more firms to follow the same suit in creating a secure and robust environment for their users.
