YouTube Buffering? Why Does It Keep Happening?

There are many different reasons as to why YouTube videos could get stuck in a buffering state and here are some of the few common reasons.

There is something wrong with your internet. HD video streaming requires consistent, stable internet connection.
There could be an issue with YouTube video player. You could try to lower the video quality from 1080p to 720p or 480p.
There could be trouble with your computer. You could have maxed out your RAM capacity.

How to Fix YouTube Buffering and Stuttering

Check Your Internet Connection

One of the most common reasons as to why your YouTube video is buffering is due to slow internet connection. To check if the reason of the issue you are experiencing is your internet connection is by testing the speed of your connection. To fix your internet connection, you could restart your computer or browser. You could also try to reset your home network or unplug your modem and router and plug your modem back. Wait for all the lights to turn on. Then, plug back your router and wait for it to fully boot.

Check Your Browser Settings

Launch Google Chrome
Click three dots which could be found at the right top corner

Update Your Browser

One of the reasons as to why your YouTube video is experiencing buffering is due to your browser being out of date. If this is the case, you will have to manually update your Chrome.

Go to the top right portion
Click on the update icon.
If the icon is green, then, your browser is up-to-date. If it is yellow, you are several days behind of updating your browser.
Click on the button and click yes.
You could also be asked to install or update Adobe Flash Player. This is out of date information as Adobe has discontinued Flash back in December of 2020. If you receive this information, be cautious as it could be either a scam or a virus.

Change Your Hardware Acceleration Settings

Hardware acceleration works differently depending on your computer. If you have an older computer, your hardware could slow down. The reason behind this is due to your processor are much older and that the GPUs could not support modern applications. This means, it is better if you could leave the acceleration off

Newer systems on the other hand could work better with hardware acceleration which means it would be perfect for it to be enabled. If not then, this could result to buffering and stuttering.
