According to a recent report published on Economic Times, Google is all set to launch its new line of Android one smartphones next week in India. Android One is Google’s newest smartphone series which was announced at the Google I/O conference in June. Google has promised that Android One will bring affordable devices to emerging markets like India and Middle East.
Android One devices are said to cost around $100 and Google announced this too at the I/O event. Google originally promised to bring Android One devices that would cost as low as INR 6,000 but the latest report suggests that the prices for Android One devices will fall between INR 7,000 to 10,000.
One of the major factors behind the increase in price was that Google is trying to include more features and apps into the device which eventually raises the device’s overall cost and so the price tag. Google is setting a minimum requirement for hardware and software for all the three manufacturers (Karbonn, Micromax and Spice) that they have to meet. In future devices, these companies can add more power in hardware and software to provide superior Android One devices too.
One of the devices that is expected to launch next week in India is said to have a 1700mAh battery, a remove back cover with dial SIM support and an expandable microSD card slot. The device is said to have a 4.5 inch display with 1GB RAM on board. Even though Android L developer preview is already out, Google may go with the latest Android KitKat 4.4.4 for its first group of Android One devices.
