Google releases Android Marshmallow for Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9, and Player

Canadian carrier TELUS told us that Android Marshmallow would be released for Nexus devices on October 5th, and the day has come: Google released Marshmallow today, just as TELUS said it would.

Android Marshmallow was released today for Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9, and Player, so Nexus owners should go look for the update on their devices now. Keep in mind, too, that the Marshmallow update may not hit your device today, but later this week. I’ve often experienced the update three days after Google officially releases it. If you’ve not yet received Android Marshmallow yet, don’t be surprised; give it some time. You should see an update alert by week’s end, if not before.

Android Marshmallow looks to bring new features to Android users that will do what all updates before it have done: enhance customer lives. Android Marshmallow brings customizable app permissions that allow you to determine whether or not WhatsApp can access your microphone, for example, Chrome Custom Tabs that allow you to sign in, save passwords, autofill, App Links that allow you to go straight to the link without interruptions, Android Pay, Google’s mobile payments solution, native fingerprint support that can be use to pay for purchases and unlock your lock screen, and native SD card support, USB Type-C charging support, and Doze, a new battery-saving feature that puts the device into a deep sleep battery mode when not in use.

Other features of Android Marshmallow include Google Now On Tap, a floating clipboard toolbar, Undo/Redo Keyboard shortcuts, unified app settings, Android Pay voice interaction, and so much more.
