Lenovo Flex 2 Review

The Flex 2 is the latest desktop replacement laptop by Lenovo with a plethora of features to keep the users entertained. With a price tag of $679, Lenovo Flex 2 offers a unique 300-degree folding screen with full HD resolution and touch capabilities. Lenovo Flex 2 might be bulkier than most laptops in its category, but it offers great performance at a reasonable price and is one of the best entry-level desktop replacement laptops.

Design and Features

Lenovo Flex 2 is a hybrid laptop which can be used as a tablet and a conventional laptop. Thanks to its unique hinges, the screen of Lenovo Flex 2 can be tilted all the way up to 300 degrees. It comes with the 15.6-inch multi touch display with the resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Lenovo Flex 2 is equipped with a variety of I/O ports, including one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, SD card reader, an HDMI port and a headset jack.

Below the beautiful display, there is a large backlit keyboard with island style keys. The keys offer a reasonable amount of tactile feedback, making the keyboard comfortable to use. Below the keyboard is the large metallic trackpad with multi-touch gesture support. Lenovo Flex 2 is equipped with good quality stereo speakers which are loud enough to fill a large room.

Performance

Lenovo Flex 2 is powered by Intel Core i5-4210U processor with up to 8GB of memory and Intel HD Graphics 4440. For storage it is equipped with Hybrid 500GB hard drive with 8GB solid-state drive (SSD) cache. Lenovo Flex 2 is equipped with a large battery and during a rundown test, it lasted for 5 hours and 20 minutes, which is lower than its rival laptops. It completed the Photoshop CS6 test in 4 minutes 57 seconds and scored 2683 points in PCMark 8 Work Conventional test.

At this affordable price, some drawbacks should be expected and multimedia performance is one of them. Lenovo Flex 2 can handle a little bit of gaming but things might change if you try running some heavy games. Laptop can run games like World of Warcraft on low settings with playable frames, but the Aspire 15 can offer better multimedia performance than the Lenovo Flex 2.

Conclusion

The Lenovo Flex 2 is a decent desktop replacement laptop which can be purchased at an affordable price and comes with unique features like the 300-degree folding full HD touch screen. The bulky design and low battery life might be a drawback for some users, but with a price tag of under $700 Lenovo Flex 2 is a semi-portable laptop which can easily replace any entry level desktop PC.
