LG G5 to be announced February 21st, company says

Were you wondering when the LG G5 would be announced? If so, you need look no further than this post. LG has stated in plain terms that the LG G5 will go public on February 21st with an announcement we believe will occur at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016.

The Korean manufacturer made its announcement on its LG Mobile Facebook page with the words, “Time for some play! With new friend comes new fun. Excitement begins at Barcelona on February 21st,” followed by “#LG #LG G5 #G5,” which tells us that the LG G5 will be the star of the show. The place Barcelona refers to Barcelona, Spain, which is where MWC has been held for the last few years at least.

What we know about the LG G5 is scarce at this point, though we do know that LG intends to implement a metal body for the LG G5, with a magic slot that can hold a microSD card/VR headset/headphones, as well as a bottom slide-out that lets you insert and remove the phone battery. We’ve heard rumors that LG will use something like its “edge notifications” from the LG V10 in the LG G5, and that LG looks to maintain something like a 3,000mAh battery in LG G4 successor — though little, outside of a few case pictures with the LG G5 underneath, have been leaked to us.

The LG G5, of course, will be the major rival to Samsung’s Galaxy S7, with both Korean companies competing for consumer minds and wallets. The LG G4 featured an f/1.8 aperture, manual controls, and a stitched leather body that was reminiscent of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 in 2013. At the end of the day, though, the G4 was a smartphone with nothing but iteration. LG has said, however, that the V10 is its top flagship, so we don’t know what that means or doesn’t mean for the LG G5.

At any rate, set your mind at ease: we’ll learn about the LG G5 on February 21st, and all suspicions will be laid to rest then. Until the time comes, sit back and enjoy what evidence leaks we will get to see.
