Have you loved the video chat capabilities of Skype but want to use them in an everyday setting? Many of us go to work each day and would like to have capabilities built into the social networking apps we use to communicate with bosses and fellow colleagues. For those who’ve longed to bring Skype and Slack together, Microsoft has answered your deepest desire.
Skype took to its own blog to announce the news: “If your team uses Slack, a new choice of real-time communication is available beginning today. You can now access the familiar and trusted voice and video calling you’ve grown to depend on with Skype, right from within Slack. Setting up the integration is easy — simply visit the Skype integration for Slack product page, and click on the Add to Slack button to complete the setup.”
Skype’s new Skype for Slack will also let anyone use the new video calling/chat feature, even if they don’t have a Skype account and have never even used Skype for the first time until now. At any rate, if you get the urge to see your coworkers face-to-face now, you can simply type “Skype” into the Slack chat and watch the feature come alive.
Skype for Slack is currently in preview mode, with a final release planned for sometime this year. For now, though, feel free to use the service and provide feedback to Skype. Happy chatting!
