Motorola Droid 2 gets GCF certification, could be announced next week

Recent rumors point to the Verizon-exclusive Motorola Droid Turbo 2 having an October 15th announcement date and an October 29th release date, but we have yet another piece of the puzzle that confirms the Droid Turbo 2 is on its way.

A new document shows that the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 has received certification from the Global Certification Forum (or GCF). The device number in the document is XT1585, which is similar to the number of the Droid Maxx 2 (the US label for the Moto X Play). The Droid Maxx 2 has been given the model number XT1565. The Droid Maxx 2 is considered to be a mid-ranger, so it makes sense that the Droid Turbo 2 would follow in its model number. Since the device is getting global certification, this will have worldwide availability and not just US accessibility.

The one feature of the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 that is sure to stand out concerns the device’s Plastic-OLED (or P-OLED) display that is said to be “shatter-resistant.” Plastic has greater durability than glass, so it makes sense to go with a plastic display that also has stellar color reproduction. In addition, the Droid Turbo 2 will also have the expected Quad HD resolution (2,560 x 1,440p), a 5MP front camera, 21MP back camera, and the overheating and controversial, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. We don’t know what update the device will come with, but seeing that the certification was just published on Monday, October 5th, we could be looking at Android 6.0 Marshmallow here.

Since October 15th is next week, we could see the Droid Turbo 2 in person sooner rather than later. What say you, Droid fans? Are you ready for a new Droid Turbo? What improvements do you hope to see this time from the device?
