New Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update rolls out for Cherry Mobile G1 in the Philippines

Android Marshmallow is still rolling out to Android devices, including the T-Mobile Nexus 6, but Philippines users are getting an additional Android Marshmallow update that takes their devices beyond the basic 6.0 major update. Google is labeling the new update Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and it’s rolling out to the Cherry Mobile G1 smartphone that is part of Google’s Android One program in the Philippines. The screenshot says that the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is scheduled for December 1, seeing that the security patch issued for the device says “December 1, 2015.”

We’re not surprised to see Android 6.0.1 roll out to Philippines users on the Android One program, particularly because Google has promised Android One buyers that their devices would be updated quickly, in the same fashion as Google’s American Nexus devices. What is surprising, however, is to see Google roll out Android 6.0.1 to the Android One devices before rolling out this new incremental update to Nexus devices. Nexus devices such as the Huawei Nexus 6P, LG Nexus 5X, Motorola Nexus 6, LG Nexus 5, the Nexus 7 (2013), HTC Nexus 9, and Nexus Player. At this point, then, the Android One Cherry Mobile G1 has the most updated release of Android, which is a good sign for Android One users that Google intends to fulfill its promise.

As for when Nexus users in the US can expect the rollout of Android 6.0.1, we may see it soon — as soon as the end of the month, should Google release it in the form of a new security update. Sources say that the new Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update may very well be indicative of Android 6.1 Marshmallow that the search engine giant could roll out at any moment. We know that, as usual, Android 6.0.1 will bring bug fixes, and 6.1 may do the same on a bit larger scale.
