Nexus 6P demand is strong, Google sends out delayed shipment email

Google’s Nexus 6P is off to a terrific start with the consumer base, as many consumers are purchasing their first Nexus devices ever because Google really stepped up their game this year. The Nexus 6P has better-performing cameras than the iPhone, for the first time in years, and the premium aluminum build materials, not to mention vanilla Android’s strong advantage of quick and fast updates, makes the device a winner in the eyes of many. Some early reviews of the product have iPhone users saying they’d give up their iPhone for it. It’s that good!

Well, that’s the good news, but, there is some bad news: demand for the Nexus 6P is so strong that Google is now having to send out delayed shipment emails. The company has been writing buyers, telling them that 1) their Nexus 6P won’t make it to them until at least November 7th (possibly as late as November 14th). The email goes something like the email statement below:

Thank you for buying a Nexus 6P from the Google Store. We’re really excited about this phone and we hope you are too. But we have some not-so-great news: It’s going to take a little longer to get the 6P to you than we would have liked. We’re working hard to meet the strong demand we’re seeing for the color and memory size you ordered, and we promise it will be worth it! Rest assured that orders will still be shipped in the order that they were received.

As of now, we’re expecting to deliver your 6P order between 11/7/2015 and 11/14/2015, and we’ll send you a notification as soon as it goes out the door. As a courtesy, we’ll give you a $25 refund on your purchase, which we’ll process soon after your phone ships.

We know that waiting a bit longer can be inconvenient, though remember we won’t charge you until your order ships. We also want to make sure you’re aware that you can cancel your order. We’d hate to see you go, but if you need to, just follow the instructions here.

The good news in all of this is that Google is giving buyers a $25 credit after they receive their Nexus 6P. The credit is for those who have had to wait longer than Google promised them, and it seems fair. At the same time, Google has run into problems with production for its devices before, and you’d think Google could get it right at some point. Sure, all companies have manufacturing problems, but why craft such a great product and then force customers to wait? With a few months each year before the announcement, Google could ramp up production and not make customers wait.

The Nexus 6P is a premium product, but the rollout after the announcement can make or break any phone’s assumed “premium” status. Just ask OnePlus with failed product launches for both the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2.
