OnePlus 3 is headed to your door

The OnePlus 3 is headed to your door. This is a statement that not only sounds good, but is true — if you’ve ordered one of the newest handsets on the market. The new handset was announced less than a week ago, and OnePlus is already shipping smartphone orders, which is an indication that the Chinese manufacturer wants to make its customers happy.

Now, OnePlus is to be commended for shipping OnePlus 3 models so quickly. After all, the worst thing a manufacturer can do after announcing a smartphone and opening pre-orders is to wait forever to ship the coveted smartphone to early adoption customers. OnePlus wants to market its phone effectively, and quick delivery on smartphone sales is the way to do that. The phone is proving remarkable, even if it’s similar to a number of other devices, simply because OnePlus is shipping OnePlus 3 models as quickly as it can make them.

Some have said that OnePlus is doing a great job to put itself above other manufacturers such as Samsung, but one must consider that Samsung makes millions of devices and has to ship these devices to nearly X out of X people on a regular basis. For the last 3 years in a row, Samsung has sold at least 300 million smartphones in any given quarter (that doesn’t count the 1 billion+ smartphones Samsung sells each year worldwide), which is a feat that OnePlus could only hope to accomplish with its third-generation smartphone.

The OnePlus 3 specs have been published here at Aptgadget numerous times, but there are a few differences between it and the previous model: the OnePlus 2 had customizable wood backs, while this year’s device has a metal unibody with customizable protection cases instead. This year’s OnePlus device has an AMOLED display while the last two generations had IPS LCD screens with washed-out colors that turned anyone away from the display. The OnePlus 2 didn’t have near field communication (NFC), but the OnePlus 3 does. The new smartphone has an improved version of OxygenOS, but I am a huge fan of the metal unibody look. I’ve never been a metal and unibody fan, but even I have to admit: the new design is a remarkably amazing improvement over the cheap, plastic-looking OnePlus 2 and first-generation devices. There’s something to be said for a phone that’s well-put together.

Of course, this isn’t to say that the OnePlus 3 isn’t without its flaws: for one, it’s priced at $400 which, for what you’re getting in the device, paying $200 more for the highest-end devices might prove to be the better option if you’re a fan of TouchWiz and don’t want a skinned version of Android that’s more akin to vanilla Android. Next, the device lacks water and dust resistance, doesn’t have the best back camera in the world, and its 5.5-inch display may turn off some customers. Last but never least, the OnePlus 3 has a RAM management flaw that puts the 6GB RAM phone behind the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge when it comes to performance (as Samsung’s 2016 devices with 4GB of RAM outperform the 6GB OnePlus phone).

If you can overlook the RAM flaw, then the device just might be the one you’re looking for. At the same time, however, there are other phones in the same ballpark. OnePlus has made a name for itself with price, but the company finds itself shedding its old budget-friendly image by removing any second-generation OnePlus X idea and sticking to the OnePlus 3.
