OnePlus confirms new smartphone to arrive in December
August has just begun, but the greatest tech companies never sit on their laurels and wait for everyone else to catch up. OnePlus has just launched its newest flagship, but a “flagship of the flagship” may be around the corner.
According to an interview with USA Today, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei openly announced that a second OnePlus smartphone will arrive in December: There’s going to be a second phone this year, before the end of the year. Hopefully for Christmas. It may or may not be (higher spec’d than the OnePlus 2)…It’s going to be amazing, but today I’m not going to talk about it, Pei said.
There have been rumors of a OnePlus Mini, so it could be a more mid-range smartphone. It could also be a higher-end OnePlus smartphone, which makes sense in light of the current OnePlus 2’s Full HD display (which seems to trail other Quad HD flagships on the market).
OnePlus just announced its OnePlus 2 last week, what the company has called in marketing hype as the “2016 flagship killer.” While the OnePlus 2 is certainly offers a great value for the price, however, the company’s decision to forgo Near Field Communication (or NFC) in its latest flagship has become the dividing point for many OnePlus One users who are now eyeing Motorola’s Moto X Pure Edition (or Moto X Style) instead of the Chinese manufacturer’s latest smartphone. At the same time, offering a more budget-friendly device with competitive specs to Motorola’s latest may very well give OnePlus the competitive edge in the budget-friendly, high-spec smartphone market.
