Sharp reportedly working on a 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution smartphone display
In the past couple of years we have seen the trend of mobile displays used on smartphones come with better resolution each year. Just 3 years ago we saw smartphone manufacturers equip their smartphones with an HD 720P display which moved on to a FHD 1080P display a year after and now smartphone manufacturers are moving towards QHD 1440P display.
Companies are still debating over the fact that is a QHD screen on a 5 or a 5.5 inch display an overkill for a smartphone as high resolution display drains more battery. Sony also said that it does not think that putting a QHD screen on a smartphone is a good idea but according to the latest rumors even Sony is considering adding a QHD screen on their next Xperia smartphone, so it means whatever the case smartphone manufactures are moving towards a QHD resolution display.
Where smartphone manufacturers are still starching their heads on whether to use a QHD display on their smartphones, sharp is rumored to be working on a 4k resolution smartphone display that will support a resolution of 4096 x 2160 and a screen with such type of resolution would have a pixel density of 842ppi. This does sound crazy but it might be true and we might see it on a smartphone in a couple of years.
The rumors also claims that Sharp has already prepared a smartphone display that supports a pixel density of 600ppi which should be available in the market next year. Companies should now come up with bigger batteries for smartphones that comes with such high resolution displays as using a low powered battery is not an option anymore.
What do you think about all this, would a 4k resolution smartphone display be an overkill for a smartphone?
