“Shatterproof” Droid Turbo 2 headed to Verizon, worldwide, by December

The Moto X Force (codenamed Motorola Bounce) has been out and about in photo leaks lately, but the phone finally has a name in the United States: the Motorola Droid Turbo 2.

The Droid Turbo 2, serving as a successor to the first-generation Droid Turbo released last December, has been leaked by Twitter member @Upleaks in pictures showing Motorola’s usual “blue-green ring” around the time and weather, with a diamond-shaped pattern on the back of the device. The upcoming device is said to be “shatterproof,” as Motorola plans to give it an unbreakable display. Of course, all displays are brakeable and subject to cracking at some point of impact, but it appears as though Motorola will make the device more durable and impact-resistant than current displays. The toughest glass on the market, Gorilla Glass 4, can sustain smartphones even at 10-foot drops, so we’re definitely intrigued to see what the Droid Turbo 2 brings to the table.

The other specs of the Droid Turbo 2 include a 5.4-inch Quad HD display (versus the 5.2-inch Quad HD display of the first-generation Droid Turbo), an octa-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage, and a 3,760mAh battery. Of course, the first-generation Droid Turbo had a quad-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and a 3,900mAh battery – so Motorola is reducing the size of the battery in order to make the display slightly wider and create a more bezel-less experience. While Motorola will sell the Droid Turbo 2 in the US as a Verizon exclusive, the rest of the world will know this device as the Moto X Force. Worldwide, it’s said to launch in December for $620, though it’ll likely launch somewhere around $149 or $199 with a two-year contract, or $25-$26 month with Verizon’s new off-contract plans.
