Spigen LG G5 Case appears at Amazon, has March 31st sale date

Early renders of the LG G5 have leaked online, and cases have also emerged online in anticipation of LG’s next smartphone, but we can always use more confirmation of the LG G5. LG confirmed it on its LG Mobile Facebook page, but February 21st is still a week and a half away. In the meantime, we’d like to see more — and case maker Spigen has supplied it, thankfully.

LG G5 Spigen case

Spigen, a case maker known for its slim form factors for high-end smartphones such as the Galaxy Note 5, iPhone 6s, and Google’s Nexus series, is back to provide an early look at the LG G5 case it intends to sell for those who are anxiously awaiting LG’s next-generation flagship. Amazon has the listing as “LG G5 Case, Spigen [Rugged Armor] Resilient [Black] Ultimate protection from drops and impacts for LG G5 (2016),” with a product number next to it.

The Spigen LG G5 Case has a price of $10.99 and an in-stock date for March 31st. The sale date tells us that the LG G5 will be released before March 31st, so we could see the LG G5 have a similar timeframe as far as the announcement and release as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. It’s likely that LG will release its smartphone before Spigen can place the LG G5 Case on sale, so the time makes sense when you consider that LG doesn’t want Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to get too much of a head start.

The Spigen LG G5 Case shows us some of the rumors we’ve been hearing about the LG G5. First, we can see the dual camera setup for the device (which has been a rumor since the rumor mill began). Next, we see the fingerprint sensor on the back of the device, which isn’t surprising when you consider that the LG Nexus 5X and LG V10 both have fingerprint sensors. LG has been experimenting with the back of its devices since it placed the volume rockers on the back of the LG G2 three years ago (2013), and a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device maintains a familiar feel between the LG G5 and the LG V10 (LG’s newest flagship). The volume rocker sits on the side of the device, not the back, which is a change for LG’s G flagship but not surprising: all the cases up until now have shown the same thing, and this change was rumored from the beginning when the first images of the LG G5 (in diagram form, mind you) started appearing on the Web.

The date on the photo for the LG G5 Spigen Case shows a date of August 25th, which is rather late for an unveil, but LG may decide to go ahead and launch early. The date could just be a placement for LG’s phone, but it may have been the original timeframe LG set — then changed in order to compete more closely with Samsung. LG hasn’t been one to reveal its devices at MWC but waits until late Spring (May at the earliest) to make an announcement, with a summer release in the US. The LG G5 may start a new trend this year, but the wallpaper date of August 25th is interesting nonetheless.

The rugged LG G5 Spigen Case we’re seeing is not the only one available for the next-generation LG flagship; Spigen also has a clear LG G5 Case ready for primetime, and Verus has its own LG G5 case available at Amazon as well. It’s shaping up to be an interesting time for LG, as the LG G5 will be announced at MWC 2016 on February 21st at 2PM. LG’s next-generation flagship will be revealed just a few hours ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, which are already shaping up to pose problems for LG’s newest thing. We’ll be back to continue releasing more information on these high-end flagships as info pours in.
