The new Nexus devices will be announced as the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P

We’ve been talking about the LG Nexus 2015 and the Huawei Nexus as though these phones are out yet, but they aren’t out just yet. In fact, they haven’t been announced, but rumors are swirling since Google is soon to unveil its new Nexus smartphones by month’s end. Sources close to the tech site Droid Life say that Google’s two new smartphones will be called the Nexus 5X (LG Nexus) and the Nexus 6P (the Huawei Nexus).

The Nexus 5X is said to be the more affordable of the two Nexus smartphones, with specs to boot: a hexa-core Snapdragon 808, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen with a Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080p), 5MP front camera, 13MP back camera, alongside of a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C charging and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Leaked photos show that the Nexus 5X will have a Tennis Court Mint color option this time. The Nexus 6P, or Huawei Nexus, will bring the best specs of the bunch: a Quad HD or 2K resolution (2,560 x 1,440p), 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, an octa-core, Snapdragon 810 processor, alongside of USB Type-C charging. We’ve also seen evidence that Google’s planning to provide a “Nexus Protect” device plan for those whose devices get damaged during the life of the device.

Google’s devices always seem to attract attention because Google (or rather, Alphabet, in this case) is the owner of Android. Google has gone from being the company name to being one of an umbrella of companies under the Alphabet conglomerate, with Sundar Pichai now in place as Google CEO. Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, are now the heads of Alphabet. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will prove huge for Pichai, who has never been in the role of CEO for the California company.

The Nexus 5X will cost no higher than $399, but the Nexus 6P will cost at least $500, and, if last year’s Motorola Nexus 6 is any indication, could be as high as $649. Many Nexus customers didn’t take too kindly to flagship prices, so Google’s Nexus 5X is an answer to the more budget-friendly shoppers among us. The Nexus 6P, however, will feature Samsung’s AMOLED display, which is bound to bring a steeper price tag with it.
