When you have a smart home, you would like to make most of your appliances smart to make your home life easier and comfortable and one of the appliances that you could transform into smart technology are fans. Yes, you’ve got that right, your fans. There are several smart fans you could find in the market. In fact, there are several popular brands that offer smart fans. Choosing one could be a difficult task as there are a lot of factors that need to be consider. For example, integration options. Keep in mind that though there are a lot of integration options on most models, they are very limited. The good news is they are improving. For us, we highly recommend Minka Aire. They have a wide range of quality smart fan options.
Three ways to add smart ceiling fans to home:
There are some smart devices that provide smart features while some have home integration features. Though this is acceptable, it could only be beneficial for devices that are not hard wired to your house. Also, keep in mind that you would need lower power communication.
Just like purchasing any product, you would want to ensure that the one that you are buying would give you value out of your money. This includes your smart ceiling fan and for you to be able to know that your smart ceiling fan is worth investing on is when it could be connected to other smart technology that you have or planning to have.
If you are able to run everything on the same system, it would be simpler to control and manage all your devices. What is more amazing is that you will have more automation options. For example, you will be able to connect with voice assistants which would definitely provide you a more efficient way to control your smart appliances. Moreover, through integrating your smart ceiling fans to your smart home platform, you will be able to get more automation options.
Unlike the traditional noisy fans, having a smart ceiling fan that is factory balanced would not wobble nor would it be noisy. However, there are brands that would be noisy and would wobble. This is why it is important that you check customer reviews and the manufacturers claims.
Minka Aire range is a favorite of many and this is not surprising. They have extensive smart home integrations and they have integrated and built the Bond smart hub tech into their fans. This means, you will be able to use the Bond app in some integrations such as Alexa, Google Home, Nest, Ecobee, SmartThings, Controll4, Hubitat, ELAN, Siri shortcuts and many more.
Minka is a very well-established brand which means you could trust their products such as light fittings and fans. They also have high customer satisfaction ratings and their fans are factory balanced. This means, they would not wobble nor they are noisy. Their fans also come with built-in light. In fact, they have an integrated LED panel.
Minka are DC fans which means they would not work with old style wall controls. This means they would need remote controller or wall controller. Though this is the case, Minka offers an option which means we suggest that when you choose a Minka model, ensure that it comes with Bond smart tech. Keep in mind that not every model has the Bond smart tech. There are some products that would require additional Bond hub. Hence, we discourage you from choosing one that mentions Bond BD-100.
Their light component is also limited to remote. This means you would not be able to use your existing light switch. You would need to get a wall module for you to be able to access without having to find remote.
