Your advice for Method 2 appears not to work with a Mac computer plus landline. Downloading "WhatsApp" on my iMac merely opens a screen with a QR code and instructions, the first of which is "Open WhatsApp on your phone". That is a little difficult to do with a landline phone. I do not own a smart phone.
