The iPhone 7 regular model will have optical image stabilization. The regular iPhone 7 will have a dual lens camera setup. These are just two rumors, in addition to the absence of the 3.5mm headphone jack (and the addition of a second audio speaker) that we’ve been hearing about the regular iPhone 7 (of course the iPhone 7 Plus will feature these things.). There’ve been some whispers about Apple providing a 256GB storage model for the iPhone 7 Plus in order to extract more money from customers, but nothing had been said about the regular iPhone 7.

According to a renown source, though, that may be something that Apple is looking into. TrendForce says that “Apple has settled on most of the specs for the next iPhone, which will come in two sizes: 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. The major hardware highlights include expanded storage for all models and dual-camera specifically for the 5.5-inch model.”

We’re hearing from this source that only the iPhone 7 Plus, with its 5.5-inch display, is in line to get the dual-lens camera, but that the regular iPhone 7, like the Plus model, will have a 256GB storage model added to the lineup. This will be the first time ever that an Apple device has shipped with 256GB of storage. When you add to this that Apple very well may eliminate the 16GB model from its lineup, some interesting conclusions result.

First, we know that Apple is doing this due to market pressure. Samsung’s decision to eliminate 16GB models from its lineup and live in 32GB storage territory has made things increasingly hard for Apple, who has stubbornly held on to 16GB iPhone models — even going so far as to implement App Thinning in iOS 9 to take care of the issue and allow consumers to only download the bits of code they’d need for the app (apparently, some bits of code are diagnostic and development information that they don’t need. Who knew?).

Next, Apple is also doing this because there’ll be very few major changes in the next-generation iDevice. We’ve been told as much recently, leading us to believe that Apple will employ OIS along with increasing the storage of both models to draw people in who’d otherwise not even have an interest in this year’s devices. Truth be told, Apple doesn’t seem to have any new tricks up its sleeve, and these are the last resorts the company has to garner sales. The company only brought 5MP front, 12MP back, and 4K video recording to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus because of its race with Korean giant Samsung, who’s been pulling ahead of Apple in the innovation race for some time now.

While Apple is sticking to its guns in the next-generation models, Samsung intends to go all out with the Galaxy Note 7 edge, with the device being rumored to feature a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD (2,560 x 1,440p) screen resolution, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor, 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32/64GB of storage, a 5MP front camera with an f/1.7 aperture, 12MP back camera with an f/1.7 aperture, 4,000mAh battery, and IP68 water and dust resistance with the gorgeous dual-curved edges we’ve seen on the Galaxy S7 edge.

Even with stellar sales, it’s going to be another hard year for Apple.
