Samsung announces the Galaxy Note 7

The Galaxy Note 7 has been seen in photos, document leaks, banners/posters, and has been discussed on social media so much that Samsung couldn’t keep it a secret now even if it wanted to. The Korean giant finally decided to bring the world its seventh-generation Galaxy Note phablet (counting the Galaxy Note Edge in 2014 here) on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016 @ 11AM EST in the Alice Tully Hall in New York City.

The Galaxy Note 7 features many standard specs that tech enthusiasts will recognize (5MP/12MP camera combo, Snapdragon 820, Quad HD display, fingerprint sensor, etc.), but Samsung added more of its own original flair to the new device: an iris scanner the company’s been working on for 5 years, an Off Screen Memo feature on the new Always On Display (AOD), as well as IP68 water and dust resistance (a Note line first), as well as a water-resistant S Pen.

Here are the official specs: a 5.7-quad HD Super AMOLED display (2,560 x 1,440p), quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB of internal storage, IP68 water and dust resistance, 5MP front camera with f/1.7 aperture, 12MP back camera with Dual Pixel phase detection autofocus (PDAF), optical image stabilization (OIS), and video digital image stabilization (VDIS), iris scanner, as well as a 3,500mAh battery. The Galaxy Note 7 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and comes in three colors here in the US: Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Blue Coral.

Pre-orders have started with some carriers, with T-Mobile and Verizon having already opened up pre-orders on the top of the morning of August 3rd (12AM). Stores will launch the Galaxy Note 7 officially on August 19th, but customers who pre-order the Galaxy Note 7 will qualify for a free Gear Fit2 or a free Samsung 256GB microSD card.
