We\u2019ve covered the Nexus 6P and 5X announcement<\/a> from Google earlier this week, as well as details about the devices. We\u2019ve even reported that the new Nexus Protect plan will allow Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X owners protection from accidental damage and manufacturer defects for two years \u2013 which will bring peace of mind to smartphone users who\u2019ve hated the 1-year manufacturer warranty that frees most companies from covering costs of any kind after what we call \u201cthe honeymoon year.\u201d The Nexus Protect Plan will cost you $69 (Nexus 5X) and $89 (Nexus 6P), but the one-time fee should cover you for the entire cost of the two-year plan.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also another bit of good news, however, for Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X owners: for these buyers, Google is offering financing for both new smartphones over 24 months through its own mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Project Fi.<\/p>\n

This means that you can own your device off-contract and still be able to get Google\u2019s latest flagship device (the Nexus 6P) or choose the more budget-friendly Nexus 5X. You will need to pass a credit check to qualify, however, and Google will supply more details over the coming days, but those who may not be comfortable with a credit check can always purchase the phone outright.<\/p>\n

We reported earlier that Google wouldn\u2019t sell the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X through carriers, but it seems as though Huawei will sell the Nexus 6P at its own site, and both smartphones will come with AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular support (cellular bands 01 and 10 for Verizon and Sprint<\/a>) for those that intend to stick with their current carrier. Project Fi combines the networks of T-Mobile and Sprint, so Sprint customers will be right at home if they jump ship and transfer their service over to Google\u2019s Project Fi.<\/p>\n

The Huawei Nexus 6P is Google\u2019s 2015 flagship, featuring a 5.7-inch, Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440p, an octa-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of storage, an 8MP front camera, 12.3MP back camera, and is Google\u2019s first aluminum metal flagship to arrive with Nexus branding. The Nexus 5X, produced by LG, runs a hexa-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor along with a 5.2-inch display (Full HD, 1920 x 1080p) and comes with 16GB of storage for the base model.<\/p>\n

The Huawei Nexus 6P costs $499 for the 32GB model, $549 for the 64GB model, and $649 for the 128GB model, while the Nexus 5X will set you back $379.99 for 16GB and $429.99 for the 32GB model (the Nexus 5X has no 64GB or 128GB storage model; Google reserved these for the Nexus 6P).<\/p>\n
