In video games ‘ ongoing efforts to be treated as a serious art form one of the places where they have tried to build some credibility is in giving themselves awards. Movies, music, television, all of these things have major awards shows, and so should video games, at least that’s the logic.<\/p>\n

Once upon a time Spike TV tried to their own video game awards show, but it had more game trailers than it had awards, and also it was Spike TV.<\/p>\n

That show has been replaced by The Game Awards which is produced by\u00a0Geoff Keighley and after a fairly successful run last year is back for another go.<\/p>\n

The awards have already come under fire as along with their nominees the list of judges was also released. In the group of the 32 judges, there is a single woman. According to The Huffington Post,\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Jamin Warren of Kill Screen was asked to be removed from the panel when he was made aware of the discrepancy. In addition Polygon will be replacing the judge from their outlet with a female journalist.<\/p>\n

Apparently each judge communicated with the Game Awards directly and not with each other, so any one judge didn’t necessarily know who any of the others were.<\/p>\n
