US Cellular LG G4 gets Marshmallow update

US Cellular LG G4 customers, your Android Marshmallow update has arrived for the LG G4. LG has been working to update its devices as quickly as possible, and now it’s time for American consumers to reap the sweet benefits of the Korean giant’s hard work. The fifth-ranked US carrier took to its update page to tell consumers about the LG G4 update to Marshmallow. Among the features users can expect are the new Doze feature that conserves battery as your apps and phone lay idle, Google Now On Tap that lets you find out more information about something by “tapping” rather than voice commands like before, customizable app permissions, detailed battery stats, and other such “goodies.”

Sprint already updated its LG G4 for customers just shy of Christmas Day, so US Cellular seems to be about 3 weeks behind Sprint in getting its update out to customers. At the same time, however, LG is still ahead of the game when it comes to updates. Samsung has yet to release Android Marshmallow for most of its devices, with the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+, the latest devices that are now five months old, still waiting to get theirs. At the same time, however, it must be said here that LG doesn’t tweak Google’s vanilla Android software all that much, which allows the company to push out updates at a faster pace. Samsung provides its own custom-skinned TouchWiz UI for its devices — forcing the company to not keep the pace as quickly with Samsung’s vanilla-skinned Android rivals. Samsung has already started releasing Android Marshmallow beta software to European users, but American users are still waiting on Samsung to bring their devices.
