Xiaomi launches GoPro rival – The Xiaomi Yi Action Camera

Xiaomi has launched the Yi Action Camera, a perfect rival for the GoPro. The Yi Action Camera matches the specs of the entry level GoPro camera but cost lesser than it. Yi Action Camera is a compact action camera made for travel purposes and for people who want to record their actions live on camera.
The Yi Action Camera comes with different set of features that are not available in the entry level GoPro Hero action camera. The Yi Action Camera has better photo and video capabilities than the GoPro’s Hero. However, there are few common things between the two action cameras. Both feature built-in Wi-Fi that for transferring files and for using remote control via companion apps.
The Yi Action Camera is powered by an A7LS imaging processor. The camera features Sony’s Exmor R BSI CMOS image sensor which is capable of shooting photos at 16 MP and can also record 1080p videos at 60fps. GoPro Hero on the other hand only has a 5MP photo resolution and can only record 1080p at 30fps. The Yi camera is also lighter (72g) than the GoPro Hero (111g).
The most interesting fact about the Yi Action Camera is that although it excels in majority of the features when compared to GoPro Hero, it is also cheaper than the GoPro camera. Yi Action Camera just costs $64 compared to the GoPro Hero’s price of $130 which is exactly the double amount of Yi’s price.
The only limitation Yi Action Camera has right now is the availability of camera accessories which GoPro has in abundance. But, it won’t take much time before companies including Xiaomi start producing accessories for the Yi Action Camera. The Yi camera is currently available only in Chinese market and at Xiaomi’s online Mi store.
